Peikko enhances sustainability efforts with new solar energy installations

We at Peikko are taking strides towards a more sustainable future with the installation of solar energy systems in our factories across Germany, Lithuania, and Slovakia. These renewable energy initiatives not only contribute to reducing our carbon footprint but also showcase our commitment to energy efficiency and innovative solutions.

Solar power across three countries

Lithuania: Peikko's Kaunas facilities, including its two large factories, have the largest installation, boasting a total capacity of approximately 700 kW. The solar power system became operational in early 2023, and this initiative now provides around 40% of the factory's annual energy consumption, reflecting a significant move towards self-sufficiency.

Germany: At Peikko's Waldeck site, the solar installation contributes close to 10% of its annual energy needs. The investment reflects a practical approach to sustainable energy production, complemented by the site's collaboration with external companies to generate renewable surplus energy for the regional grid.

Slovakia: In Kráľová nad Váhom, Peikko installed a 130-kW photovoltaic power plant in 2023. The system generates approximately 450 MWh annually, covering 10% of the factory's energy consumption and reducing carbon emissions by 57 tons annually—the equivalent of planting 2,600 trees. Surplus energy is sold back to the national grid, emphasizing Peikko’s resourcefulness.

The complete investment in solar energy at Peikko worldwide totals close to 1,5 M€, and it is an investment for a more sustainable and more self-sufficient future.

Driving renewable energy goals

Photovoltaic initiatives at Peikko contribute to our goals to increase the use of renewable energy within our operations globally. In 2023, Peikko generated approximately 6% of its total electricity needs through solar power, with this figure expected to rise in the coming years. These projects align with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and demonstrate our work and contribution to proactively combating climate change and fostering sustainability.

Tobias Althaus, the Managing Director of Peikko Deutschland, puts together Peikko’s way of thinking about our energy installations: "Generating our own energy is more than smart—it’s the sustainable way forward."

A future built on sustainability

Solar projects at Peikko are a natural continuum to our sustainable and innovative approach to our work. With the increased use of renewable energy in our operations, we contribute to an energy-efficient future.
