Last year we were introducing a few of our Engineers, representing various Peikko Units. And this year we want to focus on our production people – the hands, which make Peikko products and carry the final responsibility for making our Customers happy with our quality.
We will be introducing people from different Peikko Production Units and in this article please meet Cătălin and Mădălin from Peikko Romania:
CĂTĂLIN PETRESCU – CNC OPERATOR (TEAM LEADER), PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT
When did you start in Peikko and what is your job in Peikko about?
I started working at Peikko on 01.03.2019 as a CNC operator. I like the fact that I was among those who contributed to the "start" of the company in Romania and participated in the arrangement of all the workstations and the organization necessary to start the production of Peikko products. In the meantime, my duties expanded, and besides the CNC operator job I am also a Team Leader.
What do you like most about your job?
I like that I do not have a repetitive job: working on several machines, both for the construction of DELTABEAMs® and steel structures. And in almost every project there is something that cannot be achieved according to standard specifications of the machines and I must think of a solution. I like that I face new situations from which I get knowledge, which later I can use to be more efficient and productive.
What projects or products that you worked on were/are the most interesting for you?
DELTABEAMs® are the products that I got attracted to since I started in Peikko and, and this is one of the reasons why I decided to apply for the CNC operator position in Peikko. DELTABEAM®s were new to me and I was very curious how they are manufactured and how efficient these products are for the client. So far, I can say that all the projects were interesting for me, because they were diverse, and each had a different level of difficulty.
What was the biggest challenge in your Peikko work so far and how did you solve it?
So far, the biggest challenge in Peikko for me was my appointment as a Team Leader. It seemed a bit difficult to work directly with people. I have known some of them for many years and I did not know how they would react when I become their leader. Then again, I realized that their reaction is not within my control and I could only control my attitude towards them. And my attitude did not change much, because even before I had a habit to check in which stage we are with the project. Being an operator myself, I was waiting to receive parts from co-workers to move forward to the next operation, and we tried to organize our work as efficient as possible. I can say that now I am satisfied about the relationships in our team.
What are your biggest interests outside working life?
I am a big fan of technology. I like to be involved in the IT field in terms of software as well as hardware, at home and everywhere when somebody asks for my support. I enjoy travelling in Romania and abroad. I would like to visit many countries and observe different lifestyles and traditions specific for the places that I am visiting. I love the adrenaline from some extreme sports: paragliding, rafting, adventure parks, roller coaster, etc.
MĂDĂLIN DONŢU – SHIFT LEADER, PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT
When did you start in Peikko and what is your job in Peikko about?
I started in Peikko in March 2019. This factory was like family because I worked here as shift supervisor when it belonged to Ruukki. In my professional activity, I only worked in metal constructions: boilers, railway bridge passages, metallic halls. I was recruited to join the production manager's team based on my experience. I wanted to work with Peikko because it is a Finnish company and I appreciate very much the Northern manner of thinking and organization. I am responsible for production of DELTABEAMs®, TERAJOINT®, PSB® and PKW.
What do you like most about your job?
I like the production of DELTABEAMs® and steel structures because every order can be a challenge as projects are different, with new elements, things that require solutions for their execution. Therefore, I am never bored at work! I appreciate that I can organize my activity, the way I see it best, my opinion matters, and initiatives are supported.
What projects or products that you worked on were/are the most interesting for you?
I enjoyed 2 projects: The stadium in Hungary and the steel construction from the Helsinki airport terminal. I also like any oversized metal construction. For the stadium in Hungary, we worked against the clock, the beams being more complex. I had to reorganize the people and the workstations in order to deliver the beams on time. The steel construction was interesting, because we needed to calculate dimensions and assembly possibilities to cover all missing information from execution drawings.
What was the biggest challenge in your Peikko work so far and how did you solve it?
All the projects are a challenge, the most interesting are the ones with oversized parts. Also, for me it is a challenge to establish and manage a team of highly skilled employees, with whom we can approach any type of project.
What are your biggest interests outside working life?
At home, I like to read the news online and watch movies on Netflix. I have a subscription for football matches of Steaua football club, I read Science Fiction books and I enjoy playing with my cat Thomas.
