Jalo Paananen, founder of Peikko:

It all started with a customer’s problem.

In 1965, a young entrepreneur, Jalo Paananen, saw a gap in the market—something crucial was missing in construction. Steel support connectors for precast buildings were needed, but no one was making them. “This is what we need on-site, but nobody manufactures them,” he was told. Most would have walked away. But Jalo saw an opportunity.

Armed with determination, engineering skills, a welding machine, and two friends, he started making the first ties in a small countryside barn. The solution was simple, but the impact was huge. That was the birth of Peikko—then called Teräspeikko Oy.

From day one, the mission was clear: to help customers and make their building process faster, easier, and safer. And that mission hasn’t changed. Every major innovation, every new product, has been driven by listening to the real needs of customers. Peikko was built on those conversations, and 60 years later, they still guide us.

What started in a barn is now a global company, operating in over 30 countries with manufacturing in 12. With 2,000 dedicated people, we continue to push boundaries, making construction better, one innovation at a time.
