Until recently, a standardized design method for using post-installed fasteners and headed anchors in load-bearing connections within earthquake-prone areas was only available in technical specifications—not in a European standard. While nuclear installations have long had a set of rules in place, these requirements are more stringent and not fully transferable to conventional structural and civil engineering projects. Although EN 1998-1 includes special provisions for composite steel and concrete structures, it does not cover connections made with mechanical anchors and headed bolts.
